About

Have you ever admired an ancient artefact and thought – I wish that I could make that out of cake. And eat it. If you have, and if you, like me, want to waste time and procrastinate as much as possible, this blog is for you.

I’m a historian of the Ancient Near East, doing a postdoc in the economy of ancient Mesopotamia, but my interest in history doesn’t stop there. It extends to everything. Everything that can be made out of cake.

Join me as I struggle with questions like: is fudge really the best edible substitute for clay? If you colour icing black so it looks like bitumen, will you still want to eat it afterwards? And how many puns can I think of that connect baking and ancient history?
